(2166-1859 B.C.) Abraham (Abram), a shepherd living in Ur (a city in ancient Sumer), was called by God to go to Canaan, and obeyed. God promised to create a great nation from his descendants. God fulfilled His covenant through Abraham's son, Isaac. His son, Jacob, was the father of twelve sons, which became the Twelve Tribes of Israel.
