Breast fed, formula, cows milk (can cause microscopic bleeding) from gut, solids (milk dominating diet after 1yr is a concern as milk is low in iron). Other history- symptoms, duration, malabsorption, chronic illness, hemolysis (spherocytosis, agglutination cold/warm and g6pd)/famliy hx/consanguinity, diet, blood loss, family history (again) and drugs (methotrexate). On fbc u should look at the rbc count, reticulocytes. Also look at hb, hct and red cell indices (mcv, mch, mchc). This is to try and work out whether anemia is due to increased destruction/loss or inadequate production of red cells. The blood film shows a microcytic hypochromic anemia with little polychromasia (a marker of new rbc production). This is suggestive of iron deficiency anemia.
