Prodrome= 3c's cough, coryza and conjunctivitus koplik spots are small white spots on the buccal mucosa measles has a maculopapular rash that starts 14 days after exposure and starts on the face and upper neck and spreads to extremities. Maculopapular= measles. Rubella, drug allergy, kawasaki, contact dermatitis, ebv and roseola (many more) vesicular= varicella, coxackie (hand, foot and mouth), hsv1 and 2, molluscum and impetigo. Purpuric= meningococcus! (must rule out), hsp, itp, dermatomyositis, polyarteritis nodosum. Note that on the face purpura can be from broken capillaries (children have weaker capillaries) from heavy/ chronic cough. Further history risk factors= immunisation status, history of contacts w rashes (especially daycare attendance), medications (especially antibiotics), associated symptoms= koplik spots, symptoms of coryza, conjunctivitis, cough, lymphadenopathy, fever, previous rashes, om history of allergies/atopy
