Test your knowledge of place values in decimal numbers - tenths, hundredths, thousandths and ten thousandths. There are no ones in decimals.
We read the place value in whole numbers from right to left: ones, tens, hundreds and thousands. In decimals you read the place value from left to right AFTER the decimal point.
First number after decimal point – Tenths
Second number after decimal point – Hundredths
Third number after decimal point – Thousandths
Fourth number after decimal point – Ten thousandths
In these problems, we are only looking for the value of decimal numbers, you can ignore any digits which come before the decimal point. Also, do not confuse thousandths with thousands or hundredths with hundreds. The words are so similar that it’s easy to mistake one for another – don’t fall into that trap.
Example: In 0.8365 the 0 is in the ones' place; the 8 is in the tenths' place; the 3 is in the hundredths' place; the 6 is in the thousandths' place; the 5 is in the ten thousandths' place.
