DNA replication and repair are essential processes that ensure the correct genetic material is passed on. DNA replication ensures that each daughter cell receives an equal amount of DNA. DNA replication is also necessary for the growth, repair, and regeneration of tissues in living organisms. 

DNA replication involves the following steps:
Replication fork formation:
The double-stranded DNA molecule is "unzipped" into two single strands.
Primer binding: The leading strand is the simplest to replicate.
Elongation: DNA polymerase adds DNA nucleotides to the 3' end of the template.
Termination: A subunit of the DNA polymerase proofreads the new DNA.
