(1) Over the last few years, misbehavior among students has become more and more of a problem. (2) Incidents such as vandalism, bullying, and fighting has become increasingly common. (3) The classes of the teachers are constantly being disrupted by unruly students. (4) Many students are being disrespectful to his or her peers, elders, and others. (5) To permit this kind of behavior is completely unacceptable, and we firmly believe that something must be done about it immediately. (6) We believe that the solution to the ongoing behavior problem is simple. (7) The current discipline system must be revised. (8) We believe that the current disciplinary code, which usually involves little more than detention, does not adequately discourage the bad behavior of the students. (9) Punishing misbehaving students by forcing them to spend an extra hour at school has not had any positive effect on their demeanor. (10) Suspensions have also been ineffective because they serve only as a way for students to get themselves out of school. (11) In response to our school’s behavioral problems, we suggest that the discipline policy be redesigned to take a more proactive approach to encouraging good behavior. (12) We recommend finding creative alternatives to detention and suspension that will increase the awareness of the students of the effects of their actions and deter misbehavior. (13) We believe that if such alternatives are instated; student behavior will improve school-wide. (14) Ultimately, a student body that is more well-behaved will make our school a better place to learn.
