(8) We believe that the current disciplinary code, which usually involves little more than detention, does not adequately discourage the bad behavior of the students. (9) Punishing misbehaving students by forcing them to spend an extra hour at school has not had any positive effect on their demeanor. (10) Suspensions have also been ineffective because they serve only as a way for students to get themselves out of school. (11) In response to our school’s behavioral problems, we suggest that the discipline policy be redesigned to take a more proactive approach to encouraging good behavior.
