Genomic libraries are constructed by isolating and purifying genomic DNA, generating DNA fragments, linking the fragments to a vector, and transforming the DNA into a host cell line. The main variable in constructing a genomic library is the type of vector used for the cloning of DNA fragments. 

Here are the steps for constructing a genomic library:
Isolate and purify genomic DNA
Generate a collection of all of a species' DNA fragments
Link the fragments to a vector
Transform the resulting cloned DNA into a suitable host cell line 

The shotgun experiment is a method for constructing a genomic library. In this experiment, the entire genome of the cell is cloned in the form of random and unidentifiable clones. 

Genomic libraries are important for research and can be kept for many years.
