Stories are written in several ways, including as fiction, as non-fiction, as a biography or as an autobiography.

Although it can contain true facts, the body of the work is not based on any real events or persons.

Non-fiction: A work of non-fiction is a piece of work that can be based on facts that include actual things, events, dates, places and/or people but these are not the main focus of the book.

The non-fiction book is more instructional or informational. An example would be a dictionary or an encyclopedia as both contain true facts but do not focus on any person’s actual life experiences. Cook books and song books would also be classified as pieces of non-fiction.

Biography: A biography is a history that a person writes about the facts and life of a real person currently existing or who existed in the past.

Autobiography: An autobiography is a piece of writing about one’s own history, experiences, facts and life. The information given in the writing comes from the direct source, i.e., the author. It does not come from an outside source. A good example of an autobiography would be a person’s personal diary or journal.

Have you seen the movie The Fourth Kind? It is all about alien abductions taking place in Nome, Alaska. It gave me the creeps when I saw it. I definitely knew afterwards that I would never go to Nome, Alaska. It was weeks before a friend of mine told me it wasn’t real. Imagine that! It sure felt real to me.
