The Praxis II Library Media Specialist (5311) Exam is based on ALA/AASL Standards for Initial Preparation of School Librarians and other guidelines for the field. Aspiring educators must complete this computer-based exam in 2 hours and pay for the Praxis test cost of $130 prior to the test day. 

About the exam: The Praxis Library Media Specialist exam is a computer-based exam that contains 120 questions. These questions are selected-response, or multiple-choice questions. Some of these questions may require test takers to select more than one choice from a list, drag and drop answer choices, type in a numeric-entry box, select graphics or sentences, or choose an answer from a drop-down menu.

Exam content: The Praxis 5311 is broken up into five different content categories:

Program Administration
Collection Development
Information Access and Delivery
Learning and Teaching
Professional Development, Leadership, and Advocacy

Note: Some questions on the exam may not count towards the total score. Test takers can score between 100 and 200, and Praxis passing scores vary by state. As of 2021, the passing scores for states that require the Praxis 5311 range from 136 to 156.
