Windows XP (codenamed Whistler) is a personal computer operating system that was produced by Microsoft as part of the Windows NT family of operating systems. It was released to manufacturing on August 24, 2001, and broadly released for retail sale on October 25, 2001. Extended support for Windows XP ended on April 8, 2014, after which the operating system ceased receiving further support or security updates to most users. Windows XP still holds 2.98% of the whole Windows market share - it has 2.5% of the desktop operating system market share.
