Biomedical recorders are used in biomedical instrumentation, which is the engineering of devices and mechanics that measure, evaluate, and treat biological systems. Biomedical instruments monitor and analyze human body parameters, such as electrophysiological signals. These instruments are used in healthcare settings for diagnosing diseases, monitoring patient vital signs, delivering therapies, and conducting research. 

Recording systems are of two types: analog recorders and digital recorders. Analog recorders can be further classified as graphic recorders and oscillographic. A graphic recorder draws a graph that relates two or more variables to time or to each other.

A basic biomedical recording system consists of the following components: Electrodes/Transducer, Signal conditioner, Writing system. 
The signal conditioner converts the output of the transducer into an electrical quantity that is suitable for the display or recording system. Signal conditioning usually includes functions such as amplifications, filtering, analog-to-digital conversions, and digital-to-analog conversions. 

Some types of biomedical recorders include: 
Strip chart recorder, Galvanometric recorder, Potentiometric recorder, Ultraviolet recorder, Inkjet recorder, Electrostatic recorder.
