An 84-year-old female fell down six steps, landing on carpet. She now complains of abdominal and pelvic pain. Her airway is open, breathing adequate, and radial pulse intact. Immediate priority is given to airway control and to maintenance of ventilation, oxygenation, and perfusion. Cervical spine protection is crucial during airway assessment and manipulation.
