Introduction

There are actually two parts of the NREMT exam:

A cognitive (written) test and a psychomotor test. Both are required to apply for your final EMT certification.

The cognitive portion of the EMT test assesses your general knowledge of emergency medical care across a wide variety of topics, including:

  1. Airway
  2. Respiration & Ventilation
  3. Cardiology & Resuscitation
  4. Trauma

This portion of the EMT test will assess your skills regarding:

  1. Assessment/management of trauma & medical patients
  2. Cardiac arrest management
  3. Bag-valve-mask ventilation of an apneic patient
  4. Spinal immobilization (seated and supine patients)

  7. Traction splinting
  8. Bleeding control / shock management
  9. Upper airway adjuncts and suction
  10. Mouth-to-mouth ventilation with supplemental oxygen & supplemental oxygen administration to a breathing patient
