A. Leaf: the organ of a plant responsible for photosynthesis and water evaporation (transpiration)
B. Branch: a secondary stem of a plant
C. Xylem: the part of the vascular system of a plant that moves minerals and water up from roots to leaves
D. Phloem: the part of the vascular system of a plant that moves the products of photosynthesis from the leaves to the rest of the plant
E. Trunk: the main stem of a plant
F. Root: the underground structure that holds the plant in place and absorbs water and minerals. A taproot is a large vertical root in certain plants.
G. Root hairs: extensions of roots that are specialized for water and mineral absorption
A. Sepal: one of the green, leaf-like structures that make up the calyx, or protective layer, of the flower
B. Petal: the often colorful part of the corolla of a flower
C. Stamen: the male, pollen-producing part of the plant, composed of the filament and anther
D. Pistil: the female part of the plant, centrally located in the flower, composed of the ovary, style, and stigma (on top)
E. Anther: the pollen-filled sac at the end of the filament
F. Peduncle: the flower-bearing stalk of a plant
