Introduction

An instrument mechanic is a tradesperson who specializes in installing, troubleshooting, and repairing instrumentation, automation, and control systems. 

Instrument mechanics work in factories and manufacturing plants, where they monitor and regularly install, repair, and calibrate automated tools and machines. They also make adjustments to these systems to ensure they operate effectively. 

Some of their responsibilities include:

  1. Studying drawings or samples
  2. Examining precision instruments like balance, meters, and pressure gauges for defects
  3. Dismantling instruments
  4. Cleaning metal components in petrol, kerosene oil, or otherwise
  5. Checking the extent of damage and further serviceability
  6. Making simple electrical connections
  7. Soldering contact points
  8. Performing other tasks as necessary
  9. Testing performance either by visual observation or by conducting simple electrical and mechanical tests
  10. Ensuring that repaired or assembled instruments conform to prescribed efficiency
