1. Aggressive selling or marketing that puts the prospect under pressure to buy. When you call 800 numbers in some radio and TV commercials, the person who answers the phone is often compelled to give you the hard sell in his telemarketing script; therefore, saying whatever it takes to give him your credit card number. Also known as high-pressure selling, which is often practiced by salespeople who are on straight commission.
