The Florida Exceptional Student Education exam is 2 hours and 30-minutes, computer-based testing consisting of approximately 100 multiple-choice questions. 

Exam content: The six competencies candidates must pass to earn Florida certification in Exceptional Student Education teaching

Knowledge of foundations of exceptional student education
Knowledge of assessment and evaluation
Knowledge of instructional practices in exceptional student education
Knowledge of the positive behavioral support process
Knowledge of multiple literacies and communication skills
Knowledge of the transition process

Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to apply for a Florida teaching certificate in Exceptional Student Education (ESE) with an Endorsement in Teaching English as a Second language (TESOL) and Reading.

Individuals certified in ESE and who have teaching certification in either elementary, middle grades, or secondary education, are eligible to teach in classrooms for students with learning disabilities, mental retardation, emotional/behavioral disorders, and physical impairments, as well as in general education classes.
