Angela steps onto an elevator on the 40th floor of a New York City skyscraper. She stands on a scale that she brought with her to measure her weight. She then presses the button for the ground floor, and the elevator begins to accelerate downward until it reaches a constant speed of 6 m/s. Shortly before the elevator reaches the ground floor, it begins to decelerate; its speed is zero as it reaches the ground floor.
