Box fill calculations ensure adequate space inside electrical boxes per NEC 314.16. Each conductor counts as one volume unit; equipment grounding conductors count as one total; devices count as two conductor volumes based on largest conductor.

Worked example:
conductors + 1 device + grounds in 14 AWG:
Volume per conductor ≈ 2.0 in³.
Count: 4 + 2 (device) + 1 (grounds) = 7 units → 7 × 2.0 = 14 in³ minimum box volume.
