Grades 3–5 (Primary)

  • Fractions & Decimals (G4–5)Most bang for buck: operations, equivalence, place value links.
    Struggles: “whole-number thinking” (add numerators/denominators), common-denominator vs common-numerator comparisons.  Work on: fraction strips/number lines; compare via same denom/num routines; error-analysis warmups. 
  • Multiplication/Division & Place Value (G3–5) → multi-digit × ÷, tables to 12–15.
    Struggles: regrouping/carry alignment, decoding word problems. Work on: area-model → standard algorithm; draw “units-tens-hundreds” boxes before computing.
  • Measurement & Geometry Basics (G3–5) → perimeter/area (rect/sq), time & calendar.
    Struggles: units (cm vs cm²), AM/PM. Work on: “Write unit first” habit; unit-switch drills.

Grades 6–8 (Middle)

  • Fractions → Rational Numbers (G6–7) → operations, negative rationals, equivalence.
    Struggles: same as above + sign/bracket errors. Work on: integer chips + bracket rule line; “estimate before exact”. ERIC
  • Linear Expressions & One-Variable Equations (G7–8) → solve, form from words.
    Struggles: symbol sense, multi-step fatigue. Work on: G–T–F–U scaffold (Given→To-find→Formula→Units); tape-diagram → equation.
  • Identities, Factorisation (G8) → (a±b)², a²−b², common-factor/regroup.
    Struggles: mis-recalling identities. Work on: “name it before you use it” + quick equality checks.
  • Mensuration (G7–8) → SA/Volume (cube, cuboid, cylinder, cone, sphere).
    Struggles: CSA vs TSA, unit conversion. Work on: sketch + mark r/h/l; unit ladder (cm→m→cm²→m²).
  • Data Handling & Probability (G7–8) → bar/double bar/pie; favourable/total.
    Struggles: scale reading; probability <0 or >1. Work on: “title-axes-units-scale-legend” pre-flight.

Grades 9–10 (Secondary)

  • Algebra Core: Linear equations pair, Quadratics, AP, Polynomials (zeros–coeff), Coordinate basics.
    Struggles: discriminant checks skipped; elimination setup; nth-term vs sum. Work on: “Choose method” tree (factor/complete-square/formula); consistency ratio test card.
  • Similarity→Pythagoras; Trigonometry + Heights & Distances
    Struggles: angle mis-ID (deg/rad), side naming. Work on: always sketch; label opp/adj/hyp first.
  • Mensuration (Areas related to circles; SAV)
    Struggles: shaded-region decomposition; frustum mixups. Work on: partition + color code; frustum mini-template.
  • Statistics & Probability
    Struggles: ogive median read, independence idea. Work on: two-ogive overlay demo; tree diagrams.
    Context: CBSE’s rising competency/application weighting makes setup/interpretation more valuable than rote. 

Grades 11–12 (Senior Secondary)

  • Functions, Matrices/Determinants; Calculus (limits→derivatives→integrals→DE); Vectors & 3D; Probability
    Struggles: cofactor signs; choosing an integration method; order vs degree (DE). Work on: 3-step integration flow (try substitution → parts → partial fractions); sign grid for cofactors.
