Quick diagnostics → Fast fixes

[ParticleModel] Matter is particulate

  • Check: “Draw air in a sealed syringe before/after compression.”
  • Fix: Show same number of particles, closer spacing; explicit: compression ≠ particles shrinking.

[DensityMix] Density vs mass/volume

  • Check: Which has greater density: 1 kg foam brick vs 0.5 kg iron cube?
  • Fix: Write ρ=m/V\rho = m/Vρ=m/V; compare ratio, not size; float/sink predictions from density.

[Mass≠Weight]

  • Check: “Mass on Moon?” “Weight on Moon?”
  • Fix: Mass constant; W=mgW=mgW=mg changes; anchor units (kg vs N).

[NetForceZero] Constant speed ≠ zero forces

  • Check: Box pushed at constant speed—net force?
  • Fix: FBD with balanced push & friction; rule: constant vvv ⇒ ΣF=0\Sigma F = 0ΣF=0.

[EnergyTransform] Energy is transferred/transformed, not “used up”

  • Check: Lamp energy story.
  • Fix: Chemical → electrical → light + thermal; always name start/end stores.

[WaveVars] f, λ, A mix-ups

  • Check: If frequency doubles (v constant), what happens to wavelength?
  • Fix: v=fλv = f\lambdav=fλ ⇒ λ halves; amplitude ≠ loudness strictly (energy link), clarify context.

[RayRules] Mirrors/Lenses

  • Check: Concave mirror ray for object beyond C—image where, type?
  • Fix: Two-rule sketch; sign conventions table beside diagram.

[Traits≠Acquired] Genetics

  • Check: “Scar from injury inherited?”
  • Fix: Heritable traits from genes; acquired traits not inherited (distinguish somatic vs germ-line).

[NatSelTeleology] “Need-based evolution”

  • Check: “Giraffes grew long necks because they needed to reach leaves.”
  • Fix: Variation → differential survival/reproduction → allele freq. change (no foresight).

[SeasonsTilt] Seasons cause

  • Check: “Summer because Earth is closer to Sun—agree?”
  • Fix: Axial tilt + angle of sunlight/day length; demo with globe/flashlight.

[GraphAxes] Variables & scales

  • Check: Student graph: label axes/units? linear vs nonlinear scale?
  • Fix: IV → x, DV → y; Title–Axes–Units–Scale–Legend routine before plotting.

[VariableControl] Fair test

  • Check: Design a plant growth experiment (find uncontrolled variables).
  • Fix: One IV, control others, replicate; define operational measures.
